Oakland Cemetery - Review
16 of Atlanta’s Mayors have been buried here. It’s a beautiful park with beautiful Victorian architecture, less than a mile from the heart of the city.
The various sections of the park include the historic original 6 acres (see the mausoleum of Jasper Newton Smith, the neoclassical Kontz Memorial and the Egyptian Revival Neal Monument), the Confederate section (see the Confederate Obelisk, the graves of the four Confederate genralsnadn the Lion of the Confederacy), the New Jewish section, Potters Field, Black Section and the Bell Tower.
Going through the cemetery’s various sections, one is struck by how it’s style and layout changes; this dynamic is thanks to the place’s long history that constantly adapted to the style, ideology and culture of the day.
If you take the guided tour (you should), you’ll be hear a very richly detailed and enthusiastic breakdown of the history of this place. Get your camera. Oakland Cemetery is one of the attractions in 3 perfect days in Atlanta itinerary. Must visit this awesome attraction.

Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta Reviews
Great place to explore history. The grounds are beautiful. You can download an general map on the different areas of the cemetery online and you can purchase a more specific map in the visitor center. There is an app that you can pay to download on your phone to give you a walking tour.
This is a nice place to take a walk while learning a little bit of Atlanta history. The have ghost tours during Halloween but tickets sell out SUPER fast so if you’re interested start planning a few months in advance.
They do free tours in the summer (obviously leave a tip) A great place to bring tourists to get a seance of the history of Atlanta!
