Every place needs a nice natural retreat away from the hubbub of the city; Atlanta is lucky to have Stone Mountain. This  quartz monzonite dome monadnock was once the site of white supremacist activities and was actually owned by Ku Klux Klan affiliates.

In 1958, the government purchased the Park and the Klan was evicted. The magnificent bas-relief on the north face or the largest on the planet and depictStonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis – all Confederate Heavyweights.

Today, there are a great number of activities in and around the park. The min highlights are the Summit Sky ride (a cable car with incredible views to the top of the mountain), the Scenic Railroad, the Sky Hike (a thrilling but safe walk that challenges your balance and vertigo), the Geyser towers, the Great Barn, the amphibious Duck rides, adventure golf, fishing at Stone Mountain Lake etc.

There’s even a terrific Laser and Light and a dog show. If you want to get away from all these organized attractions as well, try for some of the many hiking trails.

• A scenic train ride around the mountain is also available, to get an up close look at the stone mountain carving, higher cable car to the top of stone mountain is available.

• Snow mountain pass price for adult and childrens $28 (plus tax).
• Snow mountain and 3 attractions combo pass price is $37 (plus tax).
• Daily parking charges is $10.
• Vehicle entry ticket is valid for access to all picnic areas with 15 or more passengers is $20 for daily pass, pedestrians and bicycles enter at no charges.
