It’s a marvel that this theatre survived all the years since 1929, when it was built. It was originally intended to be a Shrine, then utilized for a movie palace. The changing movie industry almost rendered the place obsolete, and developers were planning on tearing it down when locals, community and celebrity alike, raised a campaign to preserve this historical monument in the 1970’s.
Thus saved and then undergoing a massive restoration project, the eccentric and other worldly Fox Theatre looks more or less like it did in when it was first built. It’s the best live entertainment venue in Atlanta and a terrific film venue to boot.
That’s not all, you can hire the place out for weddings, events and other parties, and giving you company in all this revelry is the Mighty Mo, a 4000 pipe organ valued at half a million dollars. Islamic and Egyptian architectural influences are prominently evident, it internal ceiling is awash with stars, and few decorations are quite what they seem.
