The St Matthew-in-the-City Church has a history of 150 years and plays an important role of supporting the LGBT community. The architecture of the place with a gorgeous nave, stained-glass windows, chandeliers that add a soothing warmth to the place and its tranquil ambience- all make a visit here, a rich spiritual experience.
The ‘Peace Chapel’ that is a part of the church and the beautiful organ, add to the church’s appeal.

St Matthew's Reviews & Ratings
An exceptional stone building with bright windows. Very well known for its big weddings, funerals and musical concerts. Like an oasis of repose in inner city Auckland. The organ here is outstanding as are the astonishing bell ringing events.
I visited this beautiful church today. All people were friendly there. I really enjoyed. A peaceful place. I am Muslim. I think all religious have a same message to people: "Good thinking, good saying and good doing". Thank you Janet for your kindness.
A lovely church in the middle of the city with a beautiful community who welcomed us as visitors with open arms. Lovely touches of a soup and bread lunch after the service as well as tea and coffee, and the simple but powerful integration of the local language and culture.
Nice church to visit! Beautiful architecture!
This is a fine traditional stone church. Well worth a visit or attend a service or concert. Recommended
