Fascinating and beautifully done. There were also slide shows and a movie about the Landings. It made clear how innovative and resourceful the designing engineers were and how their Port Winston harbour changed the outcome of the war. It shows what can happen when a group of talented people are told what an objective is, and instructed to find a solution to the problems. This is not one to be missed.
Nice model and a short film. But all in all very limited. Some random items here and there without much context or explanation. For a more enjoyable experience at a lot lower cost I would advise you to go to "Liberators Museum Normandy 1944"
Excellent museum with labels in French and English. This museum tells the story of the D-day landings at Arromanches which was special due to the artificial harbour assembled within a day of the landings. The artifacts, text panels, and photographs are all expertly done but the real stars are the dioramas and the films. Films are shown in English and French and announced at regular intervals. The dioramas are detailed and helped me understand the how the complex and brilliant solution of a floating harbor was built and why it was crucial to the Allied victory. Entry fee was only 8 euro per person; a great value. Parking is free off-season (December) at the lot in front of the museum. This museum has it all.
Museum is about the D-day landings and the building and use of the portable harbor the Allies brought to France to move supplies and equipment and more men into the invasion. Does a good job on showing how things happened. Also a number of field pieces with explanation of what they were and who used them. Also photos of Omaha and Utah beaches and the American Cemetery located overlooking Omaha beach. Must say the cemetery was one of the most moving places I have ever been. With the defenses the Germans had on all those beaches it's a wonder anybody made it across them alive!
Focusing on the Mulberry Harbour operation, this museum really does what it sets out to do. We'll worth a visit. The scale of the engineering is mind blowing and the exhibits in the museum bring it home.
