Bhadra Maruti - Review
When Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya from his exile, he wanted to get the Ashwamedha Yagna done. But, this worship needed a specific kind of a horse known as the ‘Shamkarna Horse’. This horse was only available with the king of Bhadravati Nagari known as Bhadrasen.
The king was an ardent follower of Lord Rama and used to sit at the banks of the Bhadravati River and sing hymns in his devotion. Lord Hanuman while came to him to take the horse and saw that he is singing melodious hymns on his own with eyes closed. Hanuman sat there so that he would not disturb the king and eventually fell asleep. When he woke up the king was still lost in his devotional mood and was still singing hymns. Lord Hanumana was so pleased that he told the king to make a wish that he would grant him. The king prayed to Hanuman that he would stay there forever and bless his people by granting their wishes. Lord Hanumana granted his wish and disappeared from there and later a statue of him in a sleeping posture was found in this very place. This is how this temple came to be called as Bhadra Maruti temple.
The town after centuries came to be known as Ratnavati Nagari and later again during the reign of Aurangzeb it came to be known as Khuldabad. Later, in 1966, Hari Bhakt Shri Narayangiri Maharaj found the idol and with the help of the people rebuilt the temple here. The present day beautiful structure is the outcome of the efforts of the Shri Bhadra Maruti Sansthan.
