The name Gautala Wildlife Sancturay is derived from the fact that this sanctuary is situated in the village of Gautala, a few kilometers away from the main city. It is one of the most beautiful sanctuaries of the country. This came into existence in 1986 when the government declared this as a reserved site on the existing flora and fauna.

This is located in the Ajantha and Sathmala hill ranges on the Sahyadris. This sanctuary is also known as the Gautala Autrum Ghat Sanctuary and the Gautala Abahayaranya.

The flora here comprises of southern dry deciduous forests. There is an abundance of draught resistant trees such as Anjan, Khair, Dhawada. Trees here do not grow tall. River valleys support moist vegetation which is eminent from the diversification of sandalwood and Arjuna trees. The vegetation is thus varied here with lush green grasses and trees on some parts and dry forest trees on the other. Nonetheless the vegetation is apt for migratory birds.

The mammals here comprise of chinkara, sloth bears, bats, wild boars, jungle cat, monkeys, civet cats, barking deer, fox, jackal, langur, leopard, nilgai, wolf, etc. there are more than 250 species of birds here. The important migratory ones include- cranes, spoonbills, stork, ibis, pochards and other species of waders. Peafowl is very much found here with flightless bird likequail, partridge, jugale fowl. The reptiles include- snakes, cobra, krait, keel backviper, python, rat snake and monitor lizards.

This place is thus not only perfect for wildlife enthusiasts, but also for photographers and for people who are looking for some beautiful and peaceful place to take a break from their busy schedules.

  • Very great full and adventurous place or wildlife it is.but if you're going with your families or going with your friends You should take care of it that no one can do any wrong things, not harm the nature, never do risky things with your life or any other life...and don't create the problems for the animal living there..by the it's good place for picnics you enjoy through your ways.. It's situated on hills so we have to take care....... According to my suggestion you must go in rainy season it makes the wildlife more n more adventurous and makes you happy n entertain you also..

  • Best time to visit in rainy season! Also best for short sunday rides with friends or family. But there is no restaurant. So you need to pack food and water with you. Animals like monkeys can be seen easily. Its clean and well maintained!

  • It's very beautiful nature place.... & also. Best wildlife Sanctuary... So. Plz visit.. & enjoy life...

  • The inhabitants of the cities suppose that the country landscape is pleasant only half the year….To the attentive eye, each moment of the year has its own beauty, and in the same field it beholds, every hour, a picture which was never seen before, and which shall never be seen again.

  • Loved it... But still need to improve more. As nearby hotels are not good for stay. Food is also not so good and costly.
