Broken Spoke, Austin Reviews

  • Never been 2 stepping in my life and I have to say it was a lot of fun! Knowing the history behind the place and also that the owner won't give in and sell is a huge plus! Keep it up guys! I recommend this place for anyone visiting the city. A lot of fun!

  • Great place to visit for a local dance hall experience. The place is quite old and looks a bit run down but I think it's part of it's charm! Friendly and a cool band. Went with a big group of 10+ and absolutely enjoyed it!

  • 🎼🎶❤️ Judging solely from “Reel South’s” documentary on “The Broken Spoke”, my next vacation will be to Texas, to honor Mr. James White, the founder of The Broken Spoke. His idea of opening a simple place to dance blossomed into an infamous dance hall, that truly put Austin Texas on the map. Much to Mr. Whites surprise, people traveled from all over the world, from as far away as Russia to Canada, to visit his iconic Texas dance hall. Many envisioned that Texas was all about its famous Country Singers, large dance floors with a down-home country feel, that made the dancers feel like family with with the performer, and their vision was confirmed when they stepped into “The Broken Spoke”. Residing in Nashville myself, we have a place called The Broken Spoke, which is in no comparison to it’s origin. TEN STARS TO AUSTIN TEXAS AND “THE BROKEN SPOKE!” 🎼🎶❤️

  • This is my most favorite place ever !!! If you are looking for an authentic Texas dance hall experience - this is it. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. The bar tenders are the best in the business - I don’t say that lightly. I am from Vegas so I know good bar service. The owner his wife kids and other family members work there - everyone is so nice. The make all the regulars feel like part of their family. Come early for the dance lesson stay for the live music and trust me everyone will get asked to dance more than once. This place is awesome and one of the last true Texas dance halls. High five to the White family for keeping this place alive. Love you all !!

  • Recently went and we had a good time there. What makes it great was the live band. Not sure the name but apparently they are there once a month. The atmosphere was great and it was quirky in a good way. Yes it needs some TLC...definately need some maintaince work, no tank tops allowed,& yes the older lady as the cashier was rude (prices are ridiculously high) Still had a good time. We will be back when that band plays.
