The Library was opened and dedicated to President Johnson in 1971, with him in attendance. The library was free to the public and contained documents that illuminated the presidents’ accomplishments during his tenure. Lyndon B Johnson was a man who pushed for legislations to fix societal problems, such as the War on Poverty, Civil Rights and Medicare. He was a man who believed that a ‘better society’ wasn’t enough, he strived for a ‘great society’. His 1965 speech on new voting rights that would protect the rights of ethnic minorities was received with dead silence, and then thunderous applause and tears because of the sensitive and inspiring way it was delivered. It’s no wonder that such a president would have a library so full of inspiring information during one of the more tumultuous times in US history.
The Library presents each documents and recording systematically, with all kinds of different media grouped into different exhibits. There’s an interesting collection of iconic photographs from the 60’s, a touching letter from Jackie Kennedy to LBJ after her husband, John F. Kennedy, was assassinated and an exhibit that shows how the famous Oval Office was set up, along with a replica. A visitor once said that the Library left people with the feeling that LBJ was ‘the right man, doing the right things at the right time.’ Visit, explore, read, watch and listen in order to find out for yourself.

This was my number one place to see on my vacation. I was old enough to remember his presidency but too young to know or care about politics. After spending 20 minutes in the museum, I was in awe of President Johnson. My main question is/was "What did he NOT do?" what an amazing man! I spent 2 and 1/2 hours here. You have got to visit here! My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
An incredible learning experience for a president that really is underrated in history. Displays were informative and interesting. Sesame Street exhibit was great as well. Highly recommended!
This place was so worth the $10 I paid. The exhibits immediately ushered me into the personality and presence of the man himself. And it was all done with just the right amount of exhibits; it didn't leave me feeling like I couldn't read it all or that there were huge sides of his person which were neglected. Great photography too. Simply stunning.
Great experience! Well worth the small price of admission to see this important piece of history. If you grew up during the Vietnam Era, you owe it to yourself to visit the LBJ library.
Great educational experience! I'm not a huge history buff, but this place provides a lot of useful and interesting information with overwhelming you! This was my first visit to a presidential library, and it makes me want to visit others!
