We got the royal treatment at Wu Chow thanks to Johnny Soup, our bartender! He gave us recommendations across the board and made arguably the best mixed drink shot I've ever had. We just barely got in without a reservation due to space at the bar and man am I glad, this was some of the best Asian food I've ever had. Can't wait to come back and order more. Singapore noodles were the top choice out of what we got, but everything was solid.
Well presented. Way too sweet. Sugar was the main sauce ingredient. Sure, better than your Chinese takeout, but it is 3 times the cost. I would give it less stars but the presentation and style was good. Staff was great. And they even serve water without ice. If you are going just for the food, you maybe disappointed.
Chinese food... very satisfying. Service is consistently above par. It has a nice interior. Food is similar to a place in San Francisco I loved.
I literally come to Wu Chow for their soup dumplings (as does most of Austin) but tonight, I was told there was a limit of one order of 5 dumplings, one order for every two people... we were a four top and limited to only two orders of soup dumplings. The waiter informed me that every night the restaurant runs out of soup dumplings before 9:30 so they have to limit the amount ordered to prolong the enviable shortage of ingredients. Now, if they know they run out EVERYDAY before 9:30 and KNOW their soup dumplings are their most POPULAR item, the logical thing to do would be to order more ingredients to meet the high demand of soup dumplings. This place is KNOWN FOR THEIR SOUP DUMPLINGS and yet, they limit their most popular menu item. Not to mention-- no where on their website or menu is this limitation explicitly stated. Instead our table was forced to order different items to comply with this ridiculous rule. I asked to speak to their manager to voice my concern and get some clarification but all she did was drop off the bill and walk away. I was shocked. I have never reviewed nor complained about restaurants, but tonight was so bad that I felt the need to make a Yelp account just for this instance. Please do not go to this restaurant if you want to have limitations of how much you can eat.
We absolutely love going to WuChow! I just hosted my husbands 41st birthday dinner this week and it was marvelous. The service was impeccable and the food is always delicious and fresh. Thank you for making our celebration so special and one to remember. Everyone had a great evening and we cannot wait to be back!
