Badami Cave Temples are a complex of four caves that have larger than life sculptures intricately carved in the beautiful sandstone rock. These exquisite carvings depict the Hindu Gods - Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, as well as the Jain and Buddhist deities. While the tremendous sculptures tend to catch your eye, the finely carved designs on the pillars of the cave do not go unnoticed. Every mural on the stone is detailed and portrays a story that you can get to know through the knowledged guides available at the place. In few of the caves there are traces of centuries old natural colors that were used to enhance the paintings on the ceilings. Out of all the four caves, the third cave is the largest which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Besides the four caves, two more caves have been discovered, although entry to these caves is prohibited. Next to the Badami caves, there is a large artificial lake which has a few temples built in stone along its banks. The rock-cut temples are a marvel to connoisseurs in history who flock to this place to understand the rich culture of India. Furthermore, being situated on a rocky hill, it serves as an adventure for the hikers. Visit these astounding caves located in Karnataka to bask in the glorious art that dates back to the 6th century.
