Ella Rock, Ella Reviews

  • Good to start the climb before 6am. Within 2 to 3 hours can reach to top (depend on fitness). Fantastic views from the top. Get enough water and take your time on top to enjoy view. Highly recommended to people who love hiking.

  • This a great place to those who love to be hiking. You can get an amazing experience when climbing up to the top. This is somewhat difficult hike to reach, because there is a hill side to climb which have more rocks on the trail. It's energy consuming thing to do. I recommend grabbing some water bottles with you if you planning to reach up to the top. There is also another road which leads to the top. More than half of the trail can be completed with a vehicle. Then around 1 to 2 kilometers should walk up to the top. I think this is good trail to those who unlike to walk along the trail.

  • A must see attraction for tourists who are interested in nature. Ella rock is a mountain peak with a stunning view of a landscape. There are a few routes but the most popular route which we took is from the railway tracks. A guide would not be needed if you are travelling in the peak time where you will meet other tourists who are coming back. You can buy fruits, water from small stalls you find by the side of the railway track. This hike is moderate and may take 1.5 - 2.5 hours one way depending on your speed.

  • Head up to Ella rock to watch the sunrise over the valley. It's a pretty rigorous and steep track so be ready for at least an hour's walk to reach the viewing area from the railroad track. It was unfortunately cloudy the morning we went, so the sunrise was somewhat subdued, but the view is pretty spectacular. There's an awesome Sri Lankan Turpentine forest at the top which is really worth exploring too.

  • Great hike with a very nice view. Hard to find the correct route once you turn off the train track. Watch out for some of the locals that mislead you just to offer help at a high fee.
