Gianyar Street Night Market - Review

Every evening around sunset the south side of this street begins to light up with fluorescent lamps of the vendor’s stalls. Moderately chaotic, thoroughly organic, there is nothing about this market that feels as if it is pandering to tourists and that makes it even more appealing. The biggest draw here is of course the food, both fresh produced and the cooked traditional and local dishes (meat, satay, soup, sweets). The main specialties for you to try out are the ‘babi guling’, ‘bakso’, ‘nasi jingo’ and ‘jaje pasar’. In addition to food the market is also a selling point for a variety of other goods such as toys and jewelry, pirated movies, items to be used in prayer, second-hand clothes and miscellaneous handicraft. Do not forget to bargain with your vendors; they are expecting it and will almost definitely quote you a high initial price.

  • Great place to eat as the locals do. All the vendors are very helpful and you end up well fed. I am sure the market has lot to sell, but when you go with an intention to eat, you tend to ignore other wares that are for sale.

  • Traditional market, a lot of food are available here, its open on morning and evening time. Not only food, a lot of other stuff also available. You can find shirt, kids games, flower, pant, jacket, accessories and a lot more. The price is good for your pocket. I appreciate people that like to spend their money in traditional market. So we can support a local market.

  • Good place to eat Balinese food, the original one. Same price for local & foreigners. Beter go with guide so you can explore more about the food

  • It's starting early morning till late night. The market ( pasar ), just in the heart of the city of Gianyar. Pasar will make you feel alive. Specially for those ladies.

  • Street foods at Ginyar city. Alot of choices. Pork, Babi guling and Chicken tutu. Recommended.
