Located on the island of Lombok, Mount Rinjani is an active volcano. The caldera located on top of the mountain is partially filled by a crater lake. The lake is known as Segara Anak. It is considered to be situated 2,000 meters above sea level and is 200 meters deep. Mount Rinjani was made a part of the Global Geoparks Network by the UNESCO. The lake and the mountain are protected by the Gunung Rinjani National Park. The mountain is popular among hikers and they usually hike up to the rim.
