Aillwee Cave is one of the oldest cave in Ireland consisting over a kilometer of caverns leading to the heart of the mountain. You can see some skeletons and remains of bears inside. A popular legend goes that it was last bear den in Ireland. The cave has an underground river and a cascading waterfall. Some large Stalagmites and Stalactites are found inside. The glacial infill has backfilled the cave. The cave is located high on the Burren terraced mountainside and offers magnificent views of the Galway Bay. The 30-minute tour to this cave will be a lifetime experience for you. The tearoom offers fine coffee and a freshly baked scone. The food is cooked in their own kitchen. You can also check out the gift shop or the dairy. In the dairy, you will see how cheese is made. Jams, fudge, chutneys and pickles are prepared in the farm kitchen and you can bring home a sample.
