The George Peabody library is the research library of the John Hopkins University. It was earlier on known as the library of the Peabody Institute. It was the dream of George Peabody to make this library and dedicate to all citizens who wanted to consult it. It was his return to the people of the city for their love and kindness.

George Peabody was a very wealthy merchant during the early 19th century and had earned a lot during his life time as a trader. As a capital amount he contributed $300000 that was extra ordinary during that time. It was his wish that the library be always filled with books on all fields of knowledge, especially literature. The library is thus filled with a variety of books on different subjects and many of this are of the 19th century.

The interior design and decor are also remarkable. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the whole world. The huge racks, the inner levels, balconies and the walls are all extremely well designed.
