This is a large area covering a major portion of Guilford Neighborhood. It is a beautiful green garden with a variety of colorful flowering plants and also rare herbs and medicinal bushes. The main attraction here is the variety of around 80000 tulips that grow here. The flowers are mostly seen during the months of April and May and after that when the season goes down the tulip bulbs are available for sale to general public.

This estate where we have the park now was once owned by a famous man named A.S. Abell who was an entrepreneur and chairman of a famous company. The location was then just a piece of bare land with a pond that was to be given away to builders for making of a housing society. In the year 1920, another businessman started using it as his garden and growing tulips there. He also allowed visitors to come and praise his cultivation during autumn. After his death the Sherwood Gardens was taken up by the Guilford Association and modified as a proper garden like what we see now.

Sherwood Gardens is a 6-acre park located in the city of Baltimore. Sherwood Gardens was created by John W. Sherwood in 1920s. Mr. Sherwood planted many tulips that he had imported from the Netherlands. Back in those days, Sherwood Gardens had become the most famous tulip garden in North America. After Mr. Sherwood’s death, the gardens were purchased by the Guilford Association and today, approximately 80,000 tulip bulbs are planted annually along with many other spring flowers like flowering cherries, wisteria and magnolias.
