The beauty of White crater is what attracts tourists worldwide. Kawah Putih or White Crater is a striking crater lake and tourist spot in a volcanic crater about 50 km south of Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Kawah Putih is one of the two craters which make up Mount Patuha, an andesitic stratovolcano. Mt Patuha is one of numerous volcanoes in Java. Kawah Putih Crater Lake itself represents a relatively stable volcanic system with no records of significant activity since around 1600.

The dense forest area is great to explore around and visitors can sit in the shelters or take a walk. Animals and birds which may be spotted include eagles, owls, monkeys, mouse deer, and forest pigs. Panthers, leopards and pythons have also sometimes been seen in the nearby forest.

The most alluring part about this attraction is the lake, which because of being highly acidic, changes colors from blue to white to green to brown, and is a mesmerizing sight to behold. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Bandung itinerary 1 day.

  • There's a mini bus going to the crater which is included in the entrance ticket. The place was just okay. But the weather is really nice in Ciwidey so be ready to just have a windbreaker/jacket. There are photographers around if ever you want a more decent photo of you in the area. (I didn't try this though). Don't forget to bring or you can just buy a mask in the area.

  • Very interesting to see. Glad I took my own car up to the top, the buses drive very fast on the rough road, and it appears they have no seatbelts. Toilets at the car park were locked the whole time, discovered later that there was a WC behind the bus stop. Take sunglasses, when the sun is out there’s lots of glare. Also recommend hats and sunscreen. There’s a nice picnic area just above the car park along the way to the lake. There was no strong smell, but maybe that depends on the wind direction. The viewing platform was not in the water due to the long dry season, but the rains are coming now.

  • Actually when i went there, i have some tips for you: 1. If you go on the weekend, there are many people so if you just wanna take some photos are very limited. 2. Good place for hangout with your friends or your family. 3. Be careful, the way from the parking lot in front of crater until you get the crater itself is not so near and the ladder to get in to the crater (in/out) very long for adults. Make sure, keep your parents always with you. 4. If you have a health problem, please use the mask, because the the smell of sulfur is very strong. And maximal around 15 minutes you get back. 5. There are less of bench around the crater. 6. Big parking lot in front of the crater gate, there are 2 parking lots there, in front of the main gate and the crater gate. 7. Can use your own vehichle to get there, but you must pay more expensive (i forgot how much). 8. If you put your vehichle in the main gate, you can go to the crater with cars provided by the parties there.

  • Once you reached. To your right is a very beautiful forest with lush fern and trees. Further down the stairs you will start to smell the sulfur and see the beautiful piece of green/yellowish/bluish coloured water. It's filled with tourist and man ready to offer their professional photo taking for 10k/ photo. There is a clean toilet available too !

  • A place where you find peace of mind and taste the smell of sulphur... Bring along a mask for covering your nose, it will be handy.
