Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium - Review

One of the five planetariums in India, it was founded by Bengaluru City Corporation in 1989. Located on Sir.T Chowdaiah Road, it has been managed by the Bengaluru Association for Science Education (BASE) since 1992. The Planetarium features a 15 meters diameter dome with a seating capacity of 210. “Space Master” Planetarium projector projects the night sky as seen with naked eye on the dome along with constellation pictures and Panoramas. It is used for teaching astronomy as well. Apart from this, video projectors, slide projectors, special effect projectors, etc. are also used for the shows.

The sky-theatre shows are very popular and attract about 2 lakh visitors every year. These blend science with literature, art and cultural aspects of many countries using special animation, visual effects and videos. The planetarium also has exhibition halls and a science park. A special feature here is called 'Know Your Stars', which is a program conducted by ABAA on first Sunday of every month that includes lectures on constellations, Stars and Planets, using of telescopes manned by amateur astronomers.

  • A wonderful place to learn about stars and solar system. A must visit place for all who loves the beautiful night sky. I really enjoyed the planetarium and the awesome park outside!!! The park integrated a pinch of learning to the fun. And if you like this park try out the visveswarya museum nearby( you will really love it) Have a great time :)

  • One of the best places in Bangalore for kids to learn and to have fun too. Best sky shows in South India. Daily 2 shows. Tickets are given 2 hrs before. There a well thought out play are for kids giving them exposure to everyday science. JNP was recently awarded the Karnataka state government award. They also conduct guided sessions for HS and college kids on pure science topics. Talks by scientists are also held and are very interested.

  • A very good place for space enthusiasts and kids as well. Educational kits are also provided here. The surrounding is green and serene. The ticket charges are minimal. The management are very friendly. There's also a mini canteen and Milk Parlour in the area. Many lectures as well as summer and winter schools and many other activities keep happening from time to time. Overall a great place to visit.

  • Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in Bangalore is a popular attraction site in the city, administered by the Bangalore Association for Science Education (BASE). The entire establishment is meant for the science enthusiasts and is devoted towards providing a detailed knowledge about earth and space and various scientific aspects of it in a fun and exciting way. From how stars form to how planets evolve, from the origin of life to human's space expeditions, from how gravity works to how eclipses happen - the planetarium tells it all. The Sky Theatre is its main attraction, but there are other interesting set ups as well which is fun to experience as well as gives an overall idea about a number of scientific phenomena. People from around the city visit this place as well as tourists who are in Bangalore for some days. Mainly it facilitates the educational institutes which can bring their students here for an academic excursion with prior booking. The children get to learn things outside the classrooms and also enjoy a day out with friends. The place is a fascinating hub of knowledge but not in a preachy, textbook manner; but rather in a much more intriguing and practical way which explains the concepts much better than simple words on a piece of paper.
