One of the five planetariums in India, it was founded by Bengaluru City Corporation in 1989. Located on Sir.T Chowdaiah Road, it has been managed by the Bengaluru Association for Science Education (BASE) since 1992. The Planetarium features a 15 meters diameter dome with a seating capacity of 210. “Space Master” Planetarium projector projects the night sky as seen with naked eye on the dome along with constellation pictures and Panoramas. It is used for teaching astronomy as well. Apart from this, video projectors, slide projectors, special effect projectors, etc. are also used for the shows.

The sky-theatre shows are very popular and attract about 2 lakh visitors every year. These blend science with literature, art and cultural aspects of many countries using special animation, visual effects and videos. The planetarium also has exhibition halls and a science park. A special feature here is called 'Know Your Stars', which is a program conducted by ABAA on first Sunday of every month that includes lectures on constellations, Stars and Planets, using of telescopes manned by amateur astronomers.

  • I took my 4 yr kid to Bangalore's Planetarium and we had a great time. I had been to the same place while I was a kid and it brought me back my memories. And boy they have maintained the place so well, looks so neat and clean. Prices are so cheap. You can opt for English, Hindi or Kannada language narrations. There is a park where kids can explore some scientific phenomenons. Parking is free and ample parking space available.

  • The solar system show was informative as well as fun to watch for both kids as well as adults. The planetarium is fun place for all ages to learn about our universe and science. the sky theatre show is informative and immersive. it takes you to the space virtually and combines astronomy with astrology and other perceptions. the park is filled with interesting science experiments for everyone to learn by trying. some of them are not in working condition, hope they get fixed soon.

  • It’s a must visit place for kids to experience and learn about Solar System. The place is very nice, but old and some maintenance required. There’s lot of space for kids to learn and play. Not much of eating items are available. Lot of parking space also available. The staff are also helpful. Lot of programs are available for different age groups. Better to check the timings and then go and get the tickets.

  • The solar system show was informative as well as fun to watch for both kids as well as adults. Even the equipments outside were a fun way to learn some science phenomena. Worth every penny. You need to be there at least an hour before the show time to avoid the queue for ticket booking.

  • A good place for children to learn physics and astro, solar system.. But science park is poorly maintained, Kids below 3yrs will not be allowed inside the planetarium. Also food items not allowed inside hence ensure that you will finish food items before entering the planetarium or else the staff will collect it from you and finish it off. Spacious place for 2W & car parking, nice play area for kids, so this will be a nice one day trip in Bangalore.
