About Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru

The majestic and imposing building of Vidhan Soudha houses the State Legislature. The largest Secretariat in India, its construction began in 1952 and was completed in 1956. Chief Minister of the then Mysore State, Kengal Hanumanthaiah, was responsible for the structure, the concept and the setting of this magnificent building. The construction was supervised and executed by engineers and architects led by late B.R.Manickam, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department. This arresting monument took five thousand labourers, 1500 chiselers, masons and wood carvers and four years to complete. Built entirely of Bengaluru granite stone in the Dravidian style, it features floral motifs on stone carvings that are drawn from the celebrated temple craft of South India.

The structure stands out as an example of architectural skill and splendor. Vidhan Soudha is crowned by a 66 feet tall and 60 feet wide central dome, with the celebrated emblem of India. It is accompanied by eight pillars and six smaller domes. This place boasts of eight floors, with four floors above the ground floor and an equal number underground with three hundred and sixty rooms and fifteen conference halls that are very well-maintained. Lookout for the splendid interiors and also the windows and pillars as each of them is an example of superior craftsmanship.

  • One of the best assembly houses in the country. A beautiful architecture in the heart of the city. A nice place to walk around in the evening. The only problem is you have to enjoy the view from outside as entry inside is restricted for the public

  • Majestic structure. one of the best structures in any Indian state. This building houses the legislative assembly hall of the state of Karnataka. Well maintained by the state government. Thanks Government of Karnataka.

  • Nice ambience. Good to walk or drive around. However the entry is quite restricted at times around this place. Also tend to be crowded at times. Best time to go ..early in the morning or in the evening for a good walk starting from cubbon park

  • It's a nice spot to visit and an important place in Bengaluru.Due to metro station all trees have been cut and no sunshade. Anyways perfect time to visit would be on winter or cloudy days.

  • government building massive architectural construction which depicts Indian style of construction and workings. best place to visit in Bangalore. also very close to metro station.
