About Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru

The majestic and imposing building of Vidhan Soudha houses the State Legislature. The largest Secretariat in India, its construction began in 1952 and was completed in 1956. Chief Minister of the then Mysore State, Kengal Hanumanthaiah, was responsible for the structure, the concept and the setting of this magnificent building. The construction was supervised and executed by engineers and architects led by late B.R.Manickam, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department. This arresting monument took five thousand labourers, 1500 chiselers, masons and wood carvers and four years to complete. Built entirely of Bengaluru granite stone in the Dravidian style, it features floral motifs on stone carvings that are drawn from the celebrated temple craft of South India.

The structure stands out as an example of architectural skill and splendor. Vidhan Soudha is crowned by a 66 feet tall and 60 feet wide central dome, with the celebrated emblem of India. It is accompanied by eight pillars and six smaller domes. This place boasts of eight floors, with four floors above the ground floor and an equal number underground with three hundred and sixty rooms and fifteen conference halls that are very well-maintained. Lookout for the splendid interiors and also the windows and pillars as each of them is an example of superior craftsmanship.

Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru Reviews

  • One of the most beautiful house of the state legislature. The magnificent architecture denotes the Mysore Neo-Dravidian style. Situated opposite to the Karnataka High court, it is well maintained. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Station is situated close to it, making it more accessible via the metro. One of the must see sites in Bangalore

  • There's no State Assembly building in India more beautiful and majestic than Bangalore's Vidhana Soudha- 4 floors, and was part built by prisoners from the Bangalore Prison. It's brother Vikas Soudha-8 storey, is adjacent to the Old Building. The building looks excellent, especially on holidays/weekends 7-8 pm, when all the inside colored-lights are on, and it looks magnificent. Most ministers and bureaucrats in Karnataka, including the Chief Minister, have their offices in these buildings. The State is ruled from here, the powerhouse of Karnataka. Just opposite to it is the judicial powerhouse, the High Court of Karnataka.

  • It's very beautiful place in Bangalore and the construction of the building is awesome and it's easily to identify in the traffic and must visit place for all the travellers. I visited the place when I went for a industrial visit from our college. The view of the building would be nice if u visit early morning or at night time.

  • It is one of the most attractive places in the city. A new Building is build next to the old one. Lot of travelers are coming here which is just opposite side of the High Court Building. The roads to this place are not busy so easy to reach the place. Really loved it

  • One of the best assembly houses in the country. A beautiful architecture in the heart of the city. A nice place to walk around in the evening. The only problem is you have to enjoy the view from outside as entry inside is restricted for the public
