Gaggan Bangkok, Bangkok Reviews
You don't go to Gaggan just for a meal, you go for a show. That's not to say the food is not amazing - it most certainly is. But the show element is equally strong, which makes our evening at Gaggan the most fun and surprising restaurant experience I've had. Let me give you an example, one of the courses was called Lick It Up. In came one of the chefs with speakers and started playing a rock song with those exact words. Then they brought in the plates and, guess what, we had to lick them. Despite being a very upscale restaurant, Gaggan is not stuffy and so fancy you don't know which fork to use. The staff are friendly, fun and all part of the show. Now let's talk about the food... I really suggest you go there with an open mind and try everything you're given. I am not the most adventurous eater in the world but, to my surprise, one of my top 5 dishes contained goat's brain. And it was hard to choose the top 5 out of the 25-course menu. It's not your usual, comfortable home-cooking yet somehow every dish reminded of a loved favourite from the traditional Indian cuisine. A big part of the Gaggan experience is the surprise element. So I won't describe any more of the dishes (and anyway, they change every three months). When you go there, just trust in the genius of Gaggan and eat whatever is put in front of you without too many questions. Believe me, you won't regret it!
One of a great dining experience. Don’t expect the fancy decoration or super luxurious environment of the place, you are going totally for the food experience from the Michelin star chef. From photos, you may see lots of tiny portions those look so simple and much like appetizers, but those tiny portions are hidden with tons of ingredients that give the distinctive and unique flavors in every dish. Base on Indian food and ingredients, I like how Gaggan create Indian original flavors into fancy looking dishes. I really love the creativity he put into every dish. In most of the dishes, they are filled with many flavors combined and you may not know what they are made of. If you are not the fan of Indian curry, I believe this may change your mind. More than just Indian flavors, Thai and Japanese are also found in several dishes, which is a good blend in this 25 courses. With all this small portions, the price maybe a bit pricey, but it worth the experience once in a while.
If you want to see the most creative fine dining, you should come. Thank you Gaggan, we love your spirit and story on Chef’s Table. All the visual presentation was great and super creative. But maybe I am not a super fan with Indian food, spices or most of the food were inspired from street food. I only enjoyed maybe few dishes, but great experience, maybe I was expecting too much:P
If the price isn't an issue (as it now costs more than the top fine dining in countries like Japan and Australia, and is on par with those in USA), Gaggan remains a must do. Flavours and techniques keep you engaged. The meal currently consists of 25 small dishes served over 2-2.5 hours. We had the pleasure of being seated in the lab which made it a more social experience. The variation in flavours over short periods of time (as each dish is a mouthful) makes the wine pairing feel out of place. Each wine is served for 2-4 courses so rarely feels perfect for a dish. I'd recommend trying some of the cocktails or opting for a single bottle instead. If you have any interest in gastronomic dining then you must visit Gaggan. Just be prepared to pay more than you'd ever imagine for a meal in Thailand (think $10 for a bottle of water, and $900+ for dinner for two). Of course, compared to your home country, this is probably reasonable so use that as justification for the experience.
Fantastic evening at Gaggan! A truly once in a lifetime experience. The menu is fun and exciting with different and playful flavor. I love love the uni taco with a special surprise underneath , the egg caviar dish is spectacular.i can’t say anymore or it will take away from the fun
