Kaiton Pratunam Chicken Rice, Bangkok Reviews
You get a lot for your money here. Rice is fragrant and seasoned well. The soup is awesome, get the big bowl with all the bones. The wait is long and the restaurant is closed in the afternoon. If you don't want to wait, they have a stall in the outdoor market in front of Central world, near Naraya. The menu is smaller and the seating is limited but the food is the same.
Crowed & dirty. Long waiting time. Poor manner when ordering food. Ordered 7 dishes, but provided with just all poor parts of chicken for visitors. Good tender chicken parts for local people in nearby tables. Over all very disappointed. Chicken was overcooked & not smooth enough. Too much ice for the cold drinks as well. Chicken in Hong Kong restaurant is much better.
This restaurant is one of the highly recommended place for Thai chicken rice, by both local and tourist/blogger. Be prepared to queue as the place is particularly crowded during lunch time. Verdict: The chicken rice was decent, rice was fragrant and not too oily. The key condiment complementing the chicken rice is the garlic-bird eyes’ chillies-fermented soy bean sauce. Overall it’s nice but may not be the place that get me regularly returning to.
I decided to try this out on my last day in Bangkok. Unfortunately there was a long line for the sit in so I decided in the takeout which had a separate line. Look for the sign that says takeout order and a lady can take your order for you. I was only interested in the chicken and rice which came in two sizes; small or large. The small was 40 baht and the large was 60 baht. The order was placed in a takeaway box and came with a bag of soup and two bags of small sauce. The rice itself was tasty and full of the chicken stock flavor and the chicken itself is tender but not the best chicken I had. The sauce for dipping the chicken was spicy and a little bit sweet which was good but the soup was overly salty. The meal also came with congealed blood which was nothing special. I would recommend this place if you are close by but there's no need to make a special trip here.
I was eating in this restaurant since 20 years but now a lot of Chinese tourist spoils the place and taste. Overall it’s still much better then most of the khaw mun Kai shops.
