The Isaac Farrar Mansion was also famously known as Symphony House. It is actually a historic house in the city of Bangor, Maine. It was built in the year 1833 by the 19th-century architect Richard Upjohn. Although initially a private residence, it was owned by the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and was home to its music conservatory from 1929-1972.
The Farrar Mansion is set on the Southern side of Union Street. It is a two and a half storey brick building which is three bays wide. Another notable feature is the truncated hip roof pierced by steeply-pitched gable dormers. The styling of the building is known to be predominantly Greek Revival but it also went on to have a number of Colonial Revival alterations from the early 20th century.
The house is named after Isaac Farrar-a successful businessman who came to Bangor in 1836. The house proves that Richard Upjohn was well versed with the Greek Revival, although he is known for his work with Gothic Revival. The house was a private residence until 1911. After which, it was acquired by the University of Maine Law School, which used it as residency until 1929.
