Senegalese architect Mr. Pierre Goudiaby designed Arch 22 which was built in 1996 to mark the 1994’s military coup d'état through which Yahya Jammeh along with his Armed Forces overthrew the formerly elected Gambian government. This commemorative e arch is standing on the road into Banjul and its base is decorated with the statue of an unknown soldier. This thirty-five-meter high arch is considered to be one of the tallest structures of Gambia. Its construction is based on three floors and eight columns and the floors are accessible by staircases. A small Textile is operated on its topmost floor and from its other floors you would be delighted to witness breathtaking view of the city and surroundings.
