Located 16.5 kilometres from Lagos city centre, the Parque Zoologico de Lagos is more of a small petting zoo than a commercial one. The zoo is home to 350 species of animals and birds including hornbills, cobras, turtles, turkey, lemurs, hippos, pelicans, kangaroos, sloths, peacocks, parrots, reindeers, penguins and dwarf crocodiles. The zoo has a monkey island where you can get friendly with the notorious animals and also an island that is home to Coatis bears. The 60-metre-long ‘Flight Tunnel’ is a highlight of the place and offers you a chance to see colourful birds while taking flight. The zoo is loved for its beautiful landscape and is a favourite haunt for animal lovers. The aim of the place is to cerate a haven for animals and with plant species that cover all 5 continents, the greenery of the place is an added asset.
The feeding hours are a highlight here and give you a friendly encounter with these gorgeous creatures. The zoo has a snack bar, a playground for children and a souvenir where you can buy gifts. End the visit with a hearty, authentic Portuguese meal at the Restaurante O Cangalho located on the zoo premises.

Lagos Zoo Reviews & Ratings
This zoo was quite a surprise to us, having a wider range of animals than we were expecting of a zoo of its size. The location is a little off the beaten path, but it's pretty easy to find with GPS and they have a large parking lot across the street. Once inside you'll find a lot of different animals including a large monkey area and quite a few bird species. They have a snack bar and a restaurant on the property as well. Unfortunately admission prices are pretty high for a zoo of this size. Still, it's a great way to kill a few hours and children will have a great time here.
Generally a very nice zoo. Most of the wild animals have beautiful pens with plants and space. The so called farm animals are leading a sad life though. Much too fat, no space. The boulder beach with the penguins is a nice touch.
Honestly one of my favourite zoos I've visited to date. I love how spacious the animal enclosures are, all of the animals look very well taken care of. The monkeys are on their own island with lots of food and activities. The kangaroos and peacocks are free to roam around the park. There are a lot of exotic birds here and the park was nice and quiet so we got to enjoy all of the animals at our own pace. There's also a petting zoo where you can feed and pet some of the farm animals there.
The zoo is well worth a visit, children love it and a great day out for grand parents as well. Animals and plants truly special...
A small but very nice place. For us the greatest fun was the meeting with kangaroos walking freely through the garden.
