Antigua Sinagoga Mayor De Barcelona - Review

The old synagogue is a center of attraction in the medieval quarter of old Barcelona. The holy place was actually forgotten but is now open to visitors and believers. There are tours that give you an insight to the history of the synagogue and to story behind how the blessed place was rediscovered. The synagogue features 2 rooms, small in size and a shop that sells books and mementos. The holy shrine is an oasis of peace and tranquility in the fast life of the city.

Antigua Sinagoga Mayor De Barcelona, Barcelona Reviews

Google+
  • You can feel the history in this museum. The people working there make the experience all the more compelling. Somehow you can vividly imagine what went on in the Jewish community Many centuries ago

  • The place is very small, only 2 rooms. Actually we a bit dissappointed, just expected to see much more, but it's a very small judaik museum with ancient floor.

  • An ancient jewish temple that was unearthed. Not much there but interesting site since 10% of Barcelona was jewish until the late 1300 when all the Jews and Muslems were exiled, killed or forced to convert.

  • Interesting experience. Small, it only has a part of what it used to be. Inside there is a part of the Roman walls of the city.

  • Very moving to be in the oldest synagogue in Europe. Its just a shame its just a location with nothing left to really feel it.
