Via Sepulcral Romana is a cemetery, dating back to the Roman age. The cemetery was used as a burial site from the 1st to the 3rd century. Since the Roman law did not allow funerals inside the city walls between these centuries, the cemetery was established outside the walls of Barcelona. Today, it is located on Plaça de la Vila Madrid. There are around 85 graves with remains of more than 200 people. The cemetery is considered to be used for the funeral of the middle and underclass (slaves and freedmen). You can visit this place, although only one part of the cemetery is open for the public to view.
