The Basel Cathedral is a popular tourist attraction. Standing tall overlooking the Rhine, it doesn’t take much to deduce the importance of this red sandstone walled twin towered Cathedral. Rebuilt after an earthquake, the restored Munster followed the architectural guidelines of Gothic and Romanesque architecture. The interiors are richly embellished, depicting prophets and virgins. The Cathedral’s pulpit is said to have been carved from one block of stone. Climb the towers to enjoy some excellent views of the city.
- While entry to the church is free, entry to the church tower might charge a fee.

It's worth climbing the steps to explore the steeples and get a wonderful view of the city and surrounding countryside. Even more thrilling in a thunderstorm!
Magnificent view. Nice architecture of a Protestant cathedral. Walls are full of people names worked for Basel. Also there is a tent of open air cinema for summer in the front yard of the cathedral
Visiting the towers up old winding staircases was such an experience, but not for those who a scared of heights, which I am a little! I wish I could have made it to the top but I got to the middle level. A memorable visit. Thankyou.
Magnificent historic icon ... gives spectacular view over the River Rhine
Excellent place to visit. Pay the 5 francs and go up to the top on the wee stairs. Makes it interesting when someone is coming down...... who's giving way?
