The Basel Cathedral is a popular tourist attraction. Standing tall overlooking the Rhine, it doesn’t take much to deduce the importance of this red sandstone walled twin towered Cathedral. Rebuilt after an earthquake, the restored Munster followed the architectural guidelines of Gothic and Romanesque architecture. The interiors are richly embellished, depicting prophets and virgins. The Cathedral’s pulpit is said to have been carved from one block of stone. Climb the towers to enjoy some excellent views of the city.

The Cathedral Munster Reviews & Ratings
Stunningly intricate and beautiful architecture, stained glass, and woodwork. The climb to the top of the towers is quite treacherous and the stairs are very very narrow but the view makes it well worth it. The crypt is accessible to the public and it is fascinating, but even more than that if you love archaeological and historical things... You will really enjoy seeing the excavated room they have with tombs which the old church leaders were buried in.
An old church replete with tombs of bishops. It's rare that I've seen public access to the crypts, and here they provide access and information about past digs. Plenty of architecture and stained glass to admire above ground as well.
Elegant vaulted interior. We visited during Autumn Festival. Outside in the square were swinging rides, a huge ferris wheel, polka music, etc. Inside was peace and quiet. Sit and enjoy the stained glass and high ceilings.
Wonderful place. One of the most beautiful buildings in Switzerland. The exterior and it's red walls, sculptures, colourful roof etc. are so beautiful. The modest interior is a great contrast to the extravagant exterior. If you have the opportunity don't hesitate and go there!
Really simple food, but tasty. We were very hungry. Vegetarian choices. Nice atmosphere, nice waitress, no wait.
