This theatre is quite prominent in the British stage scene, and perhaps the most important outside of London. Many West-End productions are given a trial run here before moving on to the big city. That’s not to say that the shows tend to fall short.

The setting is pretty intimate, so you feel like you’re part of all the action happening on stage. Classics like Fiddler on the Roof and Peter Pan are routine amusements, filled with slyly slipped in adult humour that passes above the heads of the children but will bring a smile to your lips nevertheless. You’re even given the opportunity to host your own show or conference at the next door “Egg Theatre”, a wonderful private facility.

  • My favourite theatre, it's got an amazing main theatre but I just love the performances at the little studio. My daughter loves going to children performances they are interactive helping me as a parent to do something something similar at home. They have a nice and friendly cafe with a little playground for the children which is used not only by parents attending the theatre but members of the public.

  • A SMALL theatre, but lots of charm and character. Friendly staff and lots of interesting productions through the year. Very worth a visit even sitting in the cheap seats. Watch out for a few seats with some limited visibility, and the box seats look like fun.

  • Great show night. Comfortable, cosy theatre. Incredible sets and performances. 5 stars. Will come back for the next big performance!!

  • What a beautiful traditional theatre.. intimate and always high quality productions. A real treat of an evening out. I really recommend eating downstairs in the Vaults too.. gorgeous food and special pre-show deals!

  • A really lovely theatre with lots of charm. The staff are always friendly and I always look forward to seeing new plays in the main house. A pleasant evening out with some nice bars and restaurants nearby.
