Overview of Viaduc De Rocherolles
Once the most picturesque railway bridge in France, the Viaduc De Rocherolles is a manmade beauty. It is part of the Aubrais-Orleans line, and connects Folles and Bersac-sur-Rivalier. Under it flows the River of Gartempe, the shore of which is covered with lush tall trees. The viaduct was built from 1852 to 1854 but the arrival of the first train wasn’t until 1856. Electrification of the viaduct was done in 1935. The bridge is famous for its design. It is a two storeyed structure with twelve arches. It is carved out of blue granite, which was brought from a nearby quarry, and carved on the site itself. The bridge is 187 meters long and 54.60 meters high.
