Dadong Roast Duck Restaurant - Review
Da Dong Restaurant serves authentic Chinese food and is in the Dongcheng district of Beijing. The restaurant has won laurels for having the best recipe for Peking duck. The differentiated method of cooking Peking duck with the help of a spherical wood fire oven instead of using the corny square oven has added to the flavor and taste of the delicacy. You would surely want to grab a bite of the lip-smacking cuisine. A favorite amongst the food critics and gourmets, Da Dong Restaurant boasts of several awards and accolades; the most prestigious of them was getting a mention in the book “1000 places to see before you die”.

Dadong Roast Duck Restaurant, Beijing Reviews
The quality of the duck is the best we had on the whole trip. Pretty posh restaurant in a upmarket mall. The staff tend to over sell their other dishes to increase the overall bill spend though. If you’re here for a big meal, be prepared to spend. If you’re just here for the duck (which we were), then it’s still pretty affordable. Otherwise, service is pretty good. It’s quite touristy though, there were hardly any local patrons in here.
Expect a 5-star experience for this famous duck restaurant, situated amongst high end retail shops in this mall. Decor is dim lit and stylish, using light and dark to set mood. The entry to the washrooms have a shadow display - see for yourself when you visit. Food: highly recommend the Beijing duck experience. Best to also add the sauces to your order. Then watch the rest as it unfolds. It’s not the cheapest meal in town - but worth a treat. Note: we didn’t have a reservation but arrived approximately 5pm. It quickly filled up by 6pm for the dinner service.
Pecking duck is really good here , sweet and sour fish was too heavy . Desserts were good and creative but service was awful! The manager was not helpful at all and the staff didn’t speak English so it was really hard to ask them whatsoever. They were cleaning the restaurant while we were still eating(vacuuming the floor, counting dirty napkins) ... food is important but service takes the experience to the next level. Needs improvement.
Delicious Peking duck, more touristy and you go for the ambience and flare. Ordering a half duck doesn't actually give you much on the plate - so go for a full one! Condiments and pancakes come extra including a sesame bun to stuff your duck in. Be sure to dip your crispy skin in the sugar provided. And to sample more from the exquisitely large selection in the big menu they have, itself a work of art! Go and reserve yourself a table. Visa and Mastercard are accepted here.
The food was excellent however BEAWARE - they try to upselll you and tell you it’s not enough food. The hostess came back 2 times and told me after I ordered that it wasn’t enough and then talked me into the Crab and didn’t tell me it was an EXTRA $500 for 5 people - my bill was outrageous..... ruined the dinner for me when I received a $760 bill!!! $500 was the crab I didn’t even want. Also they served 1 dish at a time every 30 minutes and forgot our rice but when we said to cancel it after they served the grapes dessert - they said they couldn’t and they were bringing it out now - 5 minutes later no rice so we refused to have it and they finally cancelled it and presented us with that ridiculous bill... not happy!!!!
