Just across from St. John’s Cathedral, the Government House is also referred to as the House of Culture. Said to be the second oldest structure of Belize, the Government House served as the residence of superintendents and other government officials of Belize during the days of the British Honduras. Transformed into a cultural museum, the Government House continues to be an important historical and political landmark of Belize; in 1981, it was here that the Union Jack was replaced with the Belize flag, symbolizing liberation from its oppressors.

Among the artifacts on display, you can delve into archival records, documents and photos along with original furnishings.
