As the name suggests, the swing bridge well swings! Built in 1922, this is the only bridge in Belize City that receives most visitors. In the olden days, it’s said that the bridge was swung at least once a day to allow fisher boats. It’s no surprise that the Swing Bridge is an important part of the city; historically, it’s one of the last of the bridges that are operated manually to be known to the world.
If you’re lucky, you might be able to lend a hand to operate the bridge- it’s only swung on special occasions.
- You can observe activity at the Belize River mouth observing traditional fishing sailboats, passenger vessels heading for the cayes, the Fort Street Tourism Village and cruise ships anchored offshore.
- Caye Caulker Water Taxi
- Smoky Mermaid
- Wet Lizard
- Bird's Isle
