Since it is part of a metro region, it has a large population. Belton also has a unique and vivid history. This town's settlement is among the oldest in all of Texas. Settlement in Belton by humans goes back to 6000 BCE. Several campsites and burial mounds from that era have been found, which signify the existence of the human population from that time. The oldest known community of Belton is the Tonkawa. This tribe was popularly known to follow the buffaloes on foot. It is also believed that most tribal groups were forced to leave Belton by 1840.
