Konopiste Castle is one of the important historical points of interest in the Czech Republic. It is known as the residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand d´Este, heir to the Austro-Hungarian crown. He, together with his wife Sophia, was assassinated in Sarajevo in 1914, triggering the Second World War. This four-winged, three-story castle opened its doors to the public in 1971. It is located an hour away from Prague and is easily accessible by train. Keep in mind that Konopiste Castle is open only from April to November.
