Located 3.5 kilometre off the Benidorm mainland, the Benidorm Island (better known as peacock island for preserving wild peacocks) is one of the most popular places around the city. Looking like a sinking ship in the gorgeous blue Mediterranean water, the island is a short 20 minutes’ ride away from Benidorm’s ferry port.
The local organiser Aquascope arranges a diving and snorkelling experience along with their boat rides. You can swim with shoals of fishes, squids and starfishes or simply enjoy the view of the city from the sea. Seeing these gorgeous fishes in their natural surroundings, is an experience in itself! You can also spot dolphins swim around during the journey.
The island is not inhabited but has a restaurant and bar where you can stop by for a hearty meal and a drink. The fish& chips served here is a local favourite! Hike around the rocky pathways to spot wild peacocks and find your own favourite spot to lay down a picnic basket and enjoy the view. If you love photography, walk around the island to take some great photos. The skyline of Benidorm from here is magnificent, especially after dark when the city lights shimmers and reflect in the serene Mediterranean water.
