Takegawara means bamboo tile. Thus, signifying the way it originated in 1879. The present building was however built in 1938 with a gabled roof. It is famous for sand bath where you get yourself covered from head to toe in sand which is warm after it gets heated by thermal springs. Takegawara is one of the major hot springs of Beppu Onsen and is often called the hot spring capital of Japan. You will have a very special and a unique bath here which is for about 10 minutes, but it will give you a different experience. The vintage look adds to the charm and makes the visit worthwhile. Be ready for this wonderful bath!
