Bergen Tourism

The second largest city on the South-Western coast of Norway, Bergen, is well known for Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf and their fantastic Fish Market. One of Europe’s largest ports is the majestic gateway to the Fjords. Culturally and historically rich, the bustling city has something on the go for tourists all year round. Winter sports enthusiasts will be spoilt with their excellent cross –country and downhill ski slopes, during the cold and snowy winter months, and sea kayaking and white water rafting activities are to be found at the foot of the rugged mountain slopes in summer.

Essential travel information and Bergen tips for your visit

Tourist Traps:

  • One of the biggest complaints tourists have had is that local Norwegian produce is passed off as authentic, but actually come from Asia.
  • Local wool products, such as sweaters, are very expensive, but although they are designed in Norway, they are actually manufactured in Hong Kong.
  • Make sure that if you are in a busy tourist area, as one would anywhere else in the world, to check that the items for sale are authentic and that you are not literally having the wool pulled over your eyes, and paying double.
