Lyse Abbey is a monastery located in south-western Norway. The name "Lyse" comes from Lysefjorden, which means "the fjord of light." Lyse Abbey was founded in the 12th century by the Bishop of Bergen. The first monks to this monastery came from Fountains Abbey in England after which this monastery grew quite popular and was one of the most important properties in the country. Today the ruins are restored and this cultural monument is one of the most visited places in Norway. The stone building looks beautiful against the lush green backdrop.
