The Zoological Garden or the Berlin Zoo is located on the western side of Tiergarten. It is definitely one of the most loved attractions in the city of Berlin. The most striking feature of the zoo is that it has special habitats made for every animal. Special architects were commissioned for each exhibit and therefore the adaptability of the animals was really quick, as it was made specially for them.

There are birds, mammals and a huge variety of animals that you will come across while exploring the zoo. You should definitely not miss out on the Polar bear here who’s made the zoo his home and has adapted really well or for that matter even the big cats that would amuse you with their ferociousness yet a charming nature. The amazing part is that most of the animals are roaming almost freely in their areas which makes this place a delight to see. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Berlin itinerary 7 days.

  • Really nice zoo, not too big with lots of places to sit and we never felt too crowded out even though it was school holidays. Lots of little quiet spots to reflect or watch the animals in peace. Very good selection of animals and birds to see and they seem happy and contented. It takes 4 to 5 hours to see everything. Not too expensive unless there's a lot of you. We had a very nice morning out in the Zoo followed by a short walk to Hard Rock Cafe for lunch.

  • Really great place to visit with the kids - they can easily spend the whole day there. There’s a huge playground where we’ll stop about halfway through so my boys can take a break to run and play before checking out more animals. There’s also a couple restaurants and if you want, there’s plenty of benches and a couple picnic table by playground where you can stop and eat your own snacks. There’s a petting zoo too where the kids can feed the goats and sheep (make sure to bring some ten and twenty cent coins and a small bag or container to hold the kibble from the dispensers). The only thing that bothers me is having to exit the zoo through the gift shop (if you’re heading to the bus/train station) - there’s no excuse for it having to be that way, since there’s huge gated entrances right next to it and this is clearly a tactic to force visitors (and their children) through what is basically a big toy store - so minus a star for that.

  • It's been 35 years between visiting this zoo. It really has been kept up well. At no time did we feel crowded or rushed at the viewing locations which was so refreshing. The zoo restaurant is outstanding, such high quality and well priced. I'd love to return again very soon.

  • Nicely laid out zoo with easy access from the main road and opening out to the tiergarten beyond. No big cats when we got there but lots of other animals were around. Wolves were my favourite. Saw 3 big ones resting in the sun. Quite a bit of walking, summer uphill but plenty of seats around. Ice cream vendors situated around main site also stills cold drinks at a reasonable price

  • What a fabulous day out. The zoo was immaculate, the animals seemed well cared for, it was easy to access with the buggy. The only thing that let it down was the cost of food in the restaurant, nearly 40 euros for two. I'm taking about just two plates of food and two bottles of water. Probably best to take a picnic.
