Zytglogge - Review
A little before the stroke of every hour, a hoard of people flock to the clock tower in Bern to watch the puppet show that takes place when the oldest grandfather clock of this world gongs away to tell the time to all those who will listen.
Built in 1530, the astronomical clock has been Bern’s official time keeper since! Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, the old clock tower is a landmark of the city and a popular attraction.
- Since the clock is located in an open area in the Al Stadt, it was no business hours apart from the tour.

Zytglogge, Bern Reviews
This is a real landmark in the historic city of Bern sitting at a main intersection at the center of the old town with a number of tram stations around. The place is saturated with history and valuable architecture. It is not just a city clock; it is more of an urban feature, a three dimensional piece of architecture which you can go through and experience from different sides... It is simply unique.
Must visit place in Bern. The Zytglogge is a landmark medieval tower in the Bern. It was Built in the early 13th century. It is one of the most recognizable place in the city and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
The clock is being renovated with scaffolding and tarps covering much of the world famous features. Also, the movement on the hour is not impressive at the moment. If you are staying in Bern obviously you will want to walk by and admire it to the degree that you can. But I saw tour groups there with plenty of disappointed faces, so if you are about to pay for a day trip to Bern you should check the status of the clock renovations since it is the highlight of the tour.
This is a quaint, traditional area of the town with some beautiful buildings. The clock was taking centre stage on the street. I prefer this design over other clocks which tower above you.
It’s under construction (as of May 2018) for some renovations so that’s a bummer, but it definitely looks like a sight to behold.
