Besançon (French and Arpitan: French pronunciation: [bəzɑ̃sɔ̃] ; archaic German: Bisanz, Latin: Vesontio) is the capital of the department of Doubs and of the Franche-Comté region in eastern France, close to the border with Switzerland.
