An ancient Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Durga, the Vatsala Durga Temple is one of the most prominent places of worship in the region. The temple dates back to the 17th century, and is made of sandstone. The Taleju bell is rung morning and evening at the temple to call for prayers, and you can even climb onto the platform to see the majestic bell up close. For centuries, this beautiful structure stood in the center of the town, in all its prominence and glory. In the deadly 2015 earthquake in Nepal however, the temple was completely destroyed. Currently, renovation and resurrection of the temple underway, and hopefully, it’ll be returned to its former glory really soon!
