About Lingaraja Temple, Bhubaneshwar

Located in the midst of several other ancient temples of Bhubaneshwar, Lingaraja temple stands out because of its remarkable architectural work. The temple is said to be dedicated to Lord Shiva. As you look at the exterior walls of the temple, you can see the intricate craftsmanship on it. The artistic sculptures carved on the red stone walls of the temple are surely going to put you in awe of it. It is believed that the temple dates back to the 11th century and it follows Kalinga architectural style. However, some people also say that a portion of the temple was built way back in 6th century. • One of the wonderful temple of entire India. You shall witness temples of different size, different designs but all are maintaining the same prototype. No photography or camera, phone allowed inside. people have to register this in their own memory card.

  • Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Lingaraja Temple is one of the largest Hindu temples in Bhubaneswar and was built during the 11th century. The temple is also one of the few remaining specimens of the Kalinga style architecture and was built by the rulers of the Ganga dynasty.

  • Its an amazing complex of richly carved temples including the main Shiva temple. Beware of the pandas who will try to take your money. Non Hindus are not allowed in and you have to store mobile phones at the entrance, cannot take them in. There is a viewing platform on right of the temple from main entrance, you can take photos from there.

  • Amazing temple, at least from the outside - unfortunately non-Hindus (which seems to mean non-Indians) are not allowed in - and no information on how to gain any access/info. Though I did read there was a viewing platform somewhere, which I eventually found and caught some great snaps. It would be nice if there was a little more explanation about this for tourists. (If anyone is reading this - and wants to view from there, the platform is on the right side of the temple wall, as you are facing the main entrance. Walk around to the closed gate on the right wall, and the viewing platform is just there).
