Away from the bustling city, these multi-layered Jain rock caves of Udayagiri and Khandagiri showcases the influence of Jainism in the historical period of Orissa. During the reign of Jain King Kharavela, these caves used to be the dwelling retreats for Jain monks. The caves have very low ceiling, barely letting any person to stand erect. The facades of these caves are adorned with auspicious objects related to Jainism that were worshipped during those days. The strange fact about these caves is few of them were naturally created while some were carved by Jain monks.
However, with times most part of this range of caves has turned into ruins. But whatever is left behind, it does depicts the fine architectural work of the ancient India.
Visit these caves before it existence becomes a mere history.

Important historical place. A lil bit more maintenance is required. Provides a spectacular view of the city from the top of the caves. Monkeys are a delight to watch.
It’s was a great experience to see how the ancient Jain saints were leaving their life under that caves and worshiping. Architecture is great and is a great experience see it. A must place to visit in Bhubaneswar.
Historical place where rock cut caves are the main attraction. It offers a spectacular view of the Bhubaneswar city and also happens to be a nice sunrise spot. Beware, the place is hugely infested with monkeys .
One of the oldest Jain Cave, very famous tourist spot. Easy climbing to the top of the hill, Small temple on the top of the hill. Beware of monkeys, don't keep food istem on hand, they will snach it. Family outing and good place for photography.
Nice caves. Surprising place where voice echoes in such a small place just outside one of the cave and only at a particular spot. Attached pic is with carving of tree which bears Mango and banana fruit.
