Apache Canyon is one of the most significant and historical gems of Big Bend National Park. The canyon quarry looks marvelous in the afternoon light with shades of red, brown, orange and yellow. The Chert is the highlight of this trail. The ranch is quite popular to hikers. You will see a large rock corral and the ruins of the stone ranch house here. The corral is 4-5 feet high and 2-3 feet thick. It is well preserved. From the trailhead, you will need to cover a 4.3-mile trail to reach the canyon. The trail is not steep or strenuous, although you will find a few rugged areas. There is also an uninhabited valley full of thorns. As the trail is mostly exposed and there is no water body around, you need to carry sufficient water for the hike.
