Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest Reviews & Ratings
I got there by myself approaching dark. It was only me on the trail. So scary~~~ yet there was such a rich feeling inside of me with all those magnificent creatures around. I can't describe how magical I felt at the moment, but I will just really encourage u to see and feel for urself the treasure time brings to the ancient trees and to us.. u won't regret it
An amazing place. So surreal. Respect the area, stay on roads and trails and take in the beauty of the incredible trees, new and old. The drive is easy, even for 2wd cars. But if there has been snow, you're best off with a 4x4 with chains.
To walk the trails among saplings, up to 8,000 years old, is breathtaking and beyond comprehension. The visitor center does not open until 10:00, but is a lovely place, with a nice variety of souvenirs. Make sure and take plenty of water. Can't wait to go back for a longer visit.
Very cool place, nice hiking trails, and of course the oldest trees in the world. 1 inch diameter Bristlecones are about 100 years old; oldest ones in the 5,000 year range. Talk about resilience. Easy to get to the visitor center. Elevation 10,000+ feet so bring layers of clothing, water, and take it easy as there's less oxygen than at sea level.
Getting there is an adventure in itself. The attraction for going is to see these unique trees as well as experience what it's like at higher altitudes. If you'll pardon the pun, there is a different feel to the air up there. Clean, crisp, and just a bit different than anything below 10000 feet. And what a view it is from up there. Hiking through the groves not only gets you close look at the amazing Bristlecone Pines, but the views of the landscape below is breathtaking. Again, please excuse the pun.
