Covering around 9600 acres of wetland and woodland ecosystem, the Upper Butte Basin Wildlife Area comprises of three sectors namely Howard Slough, Llano Seco and Little Dry Creek. The Butte Creek is the highlight of the park creating a number of oxbows, sloughs and channels that attract a significant number of migratory birds. The Upper Butte Basin Wildlife Area offers a number of activities in and around the river such as fishing, wildlife watching and photography as well as hunting. There is abundance of whitetail deer, wild rabbits, waterfowl, moorhens, coots, ducks, turkeys and pheasants for hunting.
