Located in the arid regions of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan the Junagarh Fort is a precious gem of Indian architecture. It was built by the infamous Raja Rai Singh of Bikaner. He held a high position in the court of the Mughal Emperor Akbar and received huge sums of revenues through which he funded the fort’s construction. It started in 1589 and was completed by 1594. The Raja was extremely fond of art and architecture and as a result the fort is a hybrid of Rajasthani as well as Mughal style of architecture.

Over the course of generations renovations and additions were made making it an amalgamation of the best of Indian, Mughal and British styles. It has 7 gates and several pavilions with Hindu and Jain temples. It has 6 huge halls built for separate purposes from entertaining the guests to royal suppers to study and many more. The Anupmahal being one of the most beautiful of all, its ceilings inlaid with mirrors and Italian tiles and fine lattices. A must visit place indeed.

  • Junagarh Fort is unique amongst all forts in Rajasthan. Generally forts in Rajasthan are more about size and security. But this fort is all about aesthetics. It has been built by kings with very high level of aesthetic sense. Everything here is tasteful....the walls, the ceiling, floor, doors windows, furniture and even weapons. Anyone who likes to see anything done with taste will love this fort.

  • One of the well kept forts of Rajasthan. There is no separate fee for the guide, it is included in the entrance ticket itself. The places to see inside the fort are many and they are all well preserved. The museum is also maintained well. It opens a bit early, hence you can come early and see the museum first; there by saving some time. The toilet is maintained well. Overall, a good feeling.

  • It is an amazing place. It has very soothing and beautiful ambiance. A unique thing about this fort is that it has a 24/7 working road in front of it unlike other fort those are situated far away from city or house.

  • This is a wonderful suit you have a parking facility and they have a common guide who is the employee of the Port trust now once you get the ticket you can follow the guide and see the food around else you can also take a audio guide which will cost you 200 Indian rupees and you can follow that audio guide and can take a tour of the entire fort. the main portion of the fort is accessible to the visitors where I was the fort area is huge. you can keep on exploring yourself within the various which are common for all.

  • Good historical place and is nicely maintained. There are various guides available who tells you the complete history of the fort . A good place for being clicked. And it is also in the mid city so you can visit other places from here also. If you love historical places you must visit here
