Located in the arid regions of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan the Junagarh Fort is a precious gem of Indian architecture. It was built by the infamous Raja Rai Singh of Bikaner. He held a high position in the court of the Mughal Emperor Akbar and received huge sums of revenues through which he funded the fort’s construction. It started in 1589 and was completed by 1594. The Raja was extremely fond of art and architecture and as a result the fort is a hybrid of Rajasthani as well as Mughal style of architecture.
Over the course of generations renovations and additions were made making it an amalgamation of the best of Indian, Mughal and British styles. It has 7 gates and several pavilions with Hindu and Jain temples. It has 6 huge halls built for separate purposes from entertaining the guests to royal suppers to study and many more. The Anupmahal being one of the most beautiful of all, its ceilings inlaid with mirrors and Italian tiles and fine lattices. A must visit place indeed.

Worth a visit and witnessing the grandeur first hand. Ticket prices are reasonable and a guide takes you through designated areas within the fort. Try to read a bit about its history beforehand.
Amazing Place. Have a nice arrangement for drinking water. The best Historical place to get some contemporary snaps! Nice environment. It feels very calm to sit there...if you get therr to sit
One of the better maintained forts seen. A lot fewer tourists, provide for a better experience. Generally speaking, aspects and elements, viewed and displayed within, appear more extensive than other forts in Rajasthan. Weaponry on display are creatively varied, and rather extensive.
