About Junagadh Fort, Bikaner

Located in the arid regions of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan the Junagarh Fort is a precious gem of Indian architecture. It was built by the infamous Raja Rai Singh of Bikaner. He held a high position in the court of the Mughal Emperor Akbar and received huge sums of revenues through which he funded the fort’s construction. It started in 1589 and was completed by 1594. The Raja was extremely fond of art and architecture and as a result the fort is a hybrid of Rajasthani as well as Mughal style of architecture.

Over the course of generations renovations and additions were made making it an amalgamation of the best of Indian, Mughal and British styles. It has 7 gates and several pavilions with Hindu and Jain temples. It has 6 huge halls built for separate purposes from entertaining the guests to royal suppers to study and many more. The Anupmahal being one of the most beautiful of all, its ceilings inlaid with mirrors and Italian tiles and fine lattices. A must visit place indeed.

  • One of the most beautiful fort in the world. I seriously appreciate the way they maintained this fort. This fort is having rich carvings in there halls. Best place to visit if you belongs to art and architecture. But if you are not still this palace will make you feel loved. There is a museum in the palace which is having so many historical items of the Rajasthan history. Specially the aircraft and swords.

  • One of the modern forts in India. All the equipments are beautifully restored. One can see amazing weapons and armours in the fort. The best part is that the guide charges are included in the ticket and they will not allow to enter the fort without the guide. the guide will accompany you when there is 10-15 people gathered. The ticket charge is 50.00/- per head for Indian tourists and 100.00/- per head for foreign tourists.

  • Junagarh fort is one of the only major fort in Rajasthan that's built on level ground. It looks like any other fort of Rajasthan and not very appealing from outside. But this fort is really beautiful from inside and pretty well maintained. The tickets for fort and museum has to be bought separately. The fort is pretty big and everything is well maintained. The museum mainly has clothes and stuff of the kings of the area. I'll definitely recommend this place if you haven't been to many forts before. It certainly looks much better from inside than it looks from outside.

  • Worth visiting. It definitely gives and idea about the art of those times and efforts of rulers to stay close to the rulers in Delhi, be they Mughals or British. And of course it reflects the loot of common man, who till date remains poor
