February: Chinese New Year takes place on February 7. It is celebrated with great aplomb and festivity. There are traditional Chinese song and dance performances along with a colourful street parade with vibrantly painted dragons and lions.
August: The Independence Day on August 7 is celebrated throughout the city. There are traditional carnivals, cultural performances and sporting events to celebrate this event. A flag raising ceremony takes place at the Merdeka Presidential Palace.
October: Tanjung Pinang International Dragon Boat Festival is held on the 1st of October every year. The boats are brilliantly colourful and the traditional performances entertaining. Instead of being a mere spectator, you can participate in activities like canoe racing, diving and swimming. This is an important event in Bintan.
